Good editing does NOT mean flashy editing
Editing doesn't have to be overwhelming.
But first, let me take you back to the beginning…
I started off my career in tech. First working as a software engineer and then co-founding a startup and raising $1.5M in funding.
I thought that my dream was to be a tech founder, but once I actually achieved it, that dream turned out to be a nightmare.
I experienced the worst burn out of my life, so I left.
I felt like a complete failure.
But once you hit rock bottom, you can only go up.
In this period of hopelessness, I decided to completely pivot away from tech to art.
After a lot of soul searching, I landed on content creation as my new dream career.
I knew I wanted to become a content creator, but I knew absolutely nothing about scripting, filming, or editing.
So I started with what was trending at the time… street interviews.
Over 4 months, I posted 80 videos and gained just 100 followers.
Worst of all I was embarrassed by the content I was making.
Something needed to change…
I soon discovered a creator named @omgadrian, someone bringing filmmaking to short form content.
Watching his videos made me feel emotions that mine never evoked. His videos made me feel inspired.
I decided that I didn't want to just be a Content Creator. I wanted to be a Filmmaker.
But I knew nothing about filmmaking, so I started with what was the most obvious and visible: editing.
I wanted to learn fancy editing to make my videos feel more premium.
My videos had flashier editing that the content going viral, but I still wasn't seeing any results.
But I would spend 20+ hours on a videos just to get 1,000 views and 10 followers. And rewatching my videos, I knew that something was missing, but I couldn't tell what it was.
At this point, it'd been 1 year of creating content. I'd burn through so much of my savings and I've only gained a mere 1,000 followers.
I felt so frustrated about wasting my time not knowing what I was doing wrong.
I was about to quit..
but then I got the text that changed everything.
A friend gave me some hard but needed feedback.
He said I've mastered my editing tools, but my storytelling is terrible. My edits weren't evoking any emotions - they were filled with empty calories.
This feedback really struck a chord because it captured a vague feeling and insecurity I had but couldn't articulate.
So I took action.
I started binging resources on storytelling. Books, podcast, YouTube videos. I started reading and journaling everything.
And whenever I consumed stories (movies, fiction, content), I really paid attention to why I was hooked.
I finally started to understand this once nebulous concept of storytelling.
And I finally started seeing some initial success.
Just 4 months after starting my storytelling journey, I got my first videos to hit 1M views, I hit 10k followers, and I signed my first brand deal.
I finally felt proud of my videos.
I doubled down on what was working and that's when things really blew up…
Today, less than a year after reaching 10k followers, I'm now at over 120k followers.
I'm fully supporting myself through 5-figure brand deals. I've established myself as one of the top authority figures on editing and storytelling.
But more importantly…
I have a voice
I've always been that shy kid who could never speak up in class or group settings. I've always felt invisible.
But now, I have a platform where I can share my message, say it with conviction, and make an impact.
All because I learned how to tell stories.
It took me 2 years to crack editing.
After spending hundreds of hours reflecting on my own journey and auditing my entire editing process, I created the SCENE Formula.
A 5-step formula to master editing and build a lucrative career out of it.
This formula won't teach you how to edit like me.
This formula will teach you how to edit like the best version of you.
